This is our record of the short life of our son, Samuel, and the days following. Samuel was born on August 1, 2009 with several heart defects and very sick lungs. He died on August 31, 2009. August was a holy month for us,and we are so grateful for the days we had with our third son. We are convinced that our God, who carried us through each moment, is GOOD and TRUSTWORTHY. We are learning to praise Him in new ways and depend on Him more fully as we grieve Samuel.

Bronchoscopy
Samuel is currently undergoing a bronchoscopy. The pulmonologist is sending a little tube with a camera on the end of it down into Samuel's lungs. They will look and see what's there and try to suction out any secretions. His lung x-ray this morning was quite poor -- the whole left lung looks plugged or collapsed, so they are hoping to try and get the junk out of his lungs to help him improve. They said it could take anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of hours depending on what they find. Please pray that Samuel tolerates this test well -- that his heartrate stays steady, his oxygen to his brain is good, his ventilation is steady, etc. And pray that this procedure somehow helps him to get better. It would be great if they could really get the stuff out of Samuel's lungs that isn't supposed to be there. Thanks!

I am and will be praying for sweet Samuel during this procedure. Thanks for letting us know the specifics of what needs prayer. I was listening to a CD with Great is Thy Faithfulness on it this morning and found the words of this old hymn very reassuring.
ReplyDeleteGreat is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Refrain
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Refrain
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Refrain
Oodles of love to you! Ki
We're praying.
ReplyDeleteI just want to let you both know what an INSPIRATION you are for so many people, many of whom you do not know. My husband and I have never met you, but we are small group apprentices and will one day meet with Bryan. Today was the first time I heard about Samuel's journey - I spent about an hour and half reading all of your posts and praying all of the prayers you specifically asked for. You are both truly, truly inspiring Christians - as parental role models, as husband/wife role models, and as humble servant role models. Your family and Samuel are impacting us out here, and for that, THANK YOU and I hope that the surgery brings some good news your way. (Michelle)
ReplyDeleteDarrell and I just spent time lifting your little one...and the rest of you, too, to our Father.
